Israeli tourists were the top foreign visitors to Greece’s second city in 2022, the Thessaloniki Organization of Tourism (TOT) revealed at the 29th International Mediterranean Tourism Market in Tel Aviv (February 14-15), greekcitytimes.com reports.
TOT, which took part in the expo as part of the Central Macedonia delegation, said that 126,247 overnight stays from Israelis were registered in Thessaloniki over 2022.
Voula Patoulidou, TOT president, noted at the expo that “Israel’s tourism market is a fundamental component of the Organization’s strategy for targeted markets.”
She noted the historical ties of Greeks and Israelis and said Israelis love the northern Greek city in part because of the rich tourism experiences it provides.
The annual expo in Tel Aviv included over 1,760 exhibitors from 52 countries and 25,800 visitors.
