In an effort to better understand the travel habits of Brits in the run-up to Easter, international hospitality chain YOTEL commissioned independent research, revealing interesting data on the preferences of travelers in the United Kingdom.
According to the findings, one in five Britons have not taken a single day off in 2025, despite the fact that almost four months have passed since the last bank holiday. Nevertheless, Easter seems to be an ideal occasion for a short getaway, with city breaks taking precedence over camping, package holidays, or staycations.
Notably, only 20% plan to travel to long-distance destinations this Easter, with the average distance of planned trips not exceeding 220 miles.
This is also reflected in YOTEL’s hotel bookings in London and Edinburgh, where there has been a significant increase, particularly at the last minute. 45% of bookings were made just two weeks before Easter, confirming the trend of reduced travel planning time.
YOTEL CEO Hubert Viriot said:
“Given the planned strikes at Gatwick Airport, and in line with the findings of our research, we expect many Britons to remain in the country, choosing popular cities and cultural centres for their Easter break. We are already recording a 14% increase in bookings in the UK compared to 2024.”
The research also highlighted the wider appeal of Easter getaways, with 71% of Britons saying they particularly enjoy their Easter break, while 66% believe that such a getaway enhances well-being. Londoners appear to be showing the greatest enthusiasm, with 57% planning a trip, while women are more likely to plan a last-minute getaway – with one in four booking just three weeks in advance.
To meet demand and the need for affordable solutions, YOTEL is offering discounts of up to 30% on stays across all its hotels worldwide, including popular cities such as London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. The offer is valid until 21 April for stays over the Easter holidays.
