World Tourism Day in Kalamata with the presentation of the Strategic Plan

With the central slogan of the sustainable connection of local production with tourism, the Municipality of Kalamata celebrates World Tourism Day on Saturday, September 27, at 7 pm, at the Central Market of Kalamata.

The event will open with the presentation of the Strategic Plan for Kalamata Tourism by Professor Sotiris Varveris, laying the foundations for the future development of tourism activities in the city. Afterwards, a lively debate will be held with the participation of representatives of the local government, tourism professionals and the local community. The discussion will focus on issues of identity, sustainability and extroversion of the tourism product.

The evening will be enriched with the presentation of the European project OTART – Overview Through Rubbish is Art: Revealing Waste Through Art, which aims to raise environmental awareness and waste management in the Mediterranean, through artistic actions and participatory workshops.

In this context, the visual work of artist Kostas Lales will be presented live at the Central Market of Kalamata, in collaboration with local musical groups and the Kalamata Music School. The project, entitled Surf in Black, aspires to highlight the dialogue between art and the environment.

The event is organized by the Municipality of Kalamata in collaboration with the Chamber of Messinia, the Association of Catering and Leisure Establishments of Kalamata, the Hoteliers’ Association and the Cultural Organization “Faris”. The goal is to promote Kalamata as a model city that combines local production with tourism and actively participates in the global actions of the UNWTO.
