A clear strengthening of the city’s tourist footprint, with a spectacular increase in both tourist spending and overall visitor satisfaction, is reflected in this year’s Alexandroupolis municipality visitor survey for 2025
The survey, which was carried out in August and September 2025 on a sample of 492 visitors, confirms the shift of Alexandroupolis from an urban transit destination to an emerging tourist destination for stay and experience.
It should be emphasized that the main purpose of visit for 72% of participants was recreation and vacations, a percentage increased by ten points compared to 2024 (62%). 15% traveled to visit friends and relatives, 7% for business reasons, while 6% stated other reasons.

Correspondingly, 39% of Greeks visited for the same reason, while the Balkan and Central European markets represent a total of 30% of the tourist mix.
In terms of profile, the highest concentration is found in the 35-54 age group, which represents over 55% of the total, with a slight predominance of women (51%). Interestingly, the highest income groups (over 50,000 euros) show the highest percentage of leisure visits (83%).
Means of transport and length of stay
61% of visitors arrived by road, mainly from Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania, while 26% travelled by air via Demokritos Airport. The average length of stay increased to 4.2 nights compared to 3.5 in 2024, confirming the extension of the tourist season.
The average tourist expenditure was 1,289 euros per trip, recording an increase of more than 50% compared to the previous year (855 euros). This expenditure includes accommodation, dining, entertainment and purchases of local products.
Destination image and satisfaction level
The overall experience in the city was rated 4.6 out of 5, while safety and hospitality received the highest ratings (4.8 and 4.5 respectively). Visitors highlighted cleanliness, ease of access, natural beauty, gastronomy and human contact with the residents as the main advantages.
It is worth noting that 90% of participants stated that they were very satisfied with their stay, while 8 out of 10 visitors said that they would return to Alexandroupolis in the next two years.
Indicative points of interest
Visitors highlighted the Evros Delta, the Alexandroupolis Lighthouse, the Mesimvria-Zone Archaeological Site, the Makri olive groves, as well as the beaches of the Municipality as top experiences, confirming the dynamic combination of nature, history and culture that characterizes the region.
Areas for improvement
Despite the generally positive image, visitors suggest strengthening infrastructure and better organization of means of transportation, while highlighting the need for more cultural activities and promotion of local products through experiential experiences.
In summary, this year’s survey confirms that Alexandroupolis is on a path of tourist maturity, with an upgraded profile, a high satisfaction index and enhanced international extroversion. In contrast to the general slowdown in domestic tourism, the city of Evros shows resilience, dynamism and excellent growth prospects, consolidating its position as a reference point for Northern Greece and the Balkans.
