Anna Korakaki sent a whole nation into tears on Tuesday night after winning the gold medal in the 25m pistol event. Korakaki made history at the Rio2016 Olympics, becoming only the second athlete in the modern Olympics from Greece to win two medals at the same Games.
The 20-year-old beauty from the northern city of Drama, who is trained by her father, was elated at her success speaking to Greek media after her win. She said she hadn’t spoken to her mother and that she went into the final without any stress having already won the silver. Her mother Fotini, and brother Dionysis were back home and lived through the moments of suspense with the rest of the 11 million Greeks glued to their television sets.
