The Rembetiko Festival “Markos Vamvakaris’ Syra” tends to become an institution in the cultural life of Syros island in Greece, as the event honors the memory and the music work of the great indigenous composer Markos Vamvakaris as he has been the leading lights of “Rembetiko” popular music.
The Rembetiko Festival “Markos Vamvakaris’ Syra” is held for the second year from 30 August to 3 September.
The 2nd Rembetiko Festival “Markos Vamvakaris’ Syra” includes a wide variety of events, such as concerts, lectures and book presentations, through which both Markos Vamvakaris’ contribution to popular music and rembetiko song will be promoted and showcased.
Throughout the duration of the Festival an exhibition of folk musical instruments will be held in the gallery Y. & E. Vatis Art Hall (Miaoulis Square – Ermoupoli).
