The Olympic Flame which is burning for the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics continued its journey through northern and central Greece on Sunday, as the Greek leg of the torch relay nears its completion.
On Monday, the sacred light; which was ignited on October 24 in a ritual ceremony at ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games 25 centuries ago, is due to reach Athens, after travelling from western to northern Greece.
On Tuesday, it will be passed over to the South Korean hosts of the Games during a handover ceremony at the marble stadium; which hosted the first modern Olympics in 1896, in the centre of the Greek capital of Athens.
The symbol of the Olympic Games reached the archaeological site of Delphi Oracle on Sunday, where it stayed overnight; according to an e-mailed press release by the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC).
On the 6th day of the torch relay, the Olympic Flame began its journey from the city of Naoussa, crossed over to Veria and Katerini where the cauldron was lit by the Olympic champion of rowing, Katerina Nikolaidou, who ranked 4th in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
On Monday the sacred light will pass through Arahova, Livadia and Elefsina, and will reach the Acropolis in Athens, where it will stay overnight.
The Greek leg of the relay is to run a total of 2,129 kilometers, and the flame will have been carried by 505 torchbearers, according to HOC.
