BOSTON – A Greek Heritage Night took place at TD Garden in Boston this Monday, December 4th, 2017, on the occasion of the NBA game Milwaukee Bucks vs Boston Celtics (100-111), and to honor none other than the NBA star, Giannis Antetokounmpo (The Greek Freak).
Over 2,000 Greeks were in attendance.
There was also a halftime performance by The Sons and Daughters of Alexander the Great Dance Group who performed Greek dances in traditional costume.
Celtics hero of the game was Dr. Athena Papas. Dr. Papas is a Distinguished Professor of Diagnostic Sciences and the Erling Johansen Professor of Dental Research, and the Head of the Division of Oral Medicine at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts.
Giannis thanked in a Twitter post the Greeks that showed up to the game.
Prior to the game, The Niko Galis All-Stars Game on the Boston Celtics court took place, presented by The Teddy K Classic Tournament, The Teddy Kariotis Foundation, and The Harry Agganis Tournament. It was a short game for Greek-American children aged 8-12.
The National Anthem was sung by Erini (Eirini Tornesaki).
Eric Bledsoe, who just joined the Bucks in November of this year, said of his teammate Antetokounmpo, as reported on Yahoo Sports, “I didn’t know he was this talented. His energy — he plays every play as hard as he can.”
Brad Stevens, head coach of the Boston Celtics said of Antetokounmpo after the game, as reported on MassLive, “When he gets going downhill, and he finishes so well around the rim. That’s the thing: We were between him and the basket on a lot of those finishes. He’s really special. He’s going to be a special player for a long, long time.”
