Snow has covered many parts of central and northern Greece, and meteorologists forecast that temperatures will continue to plummet in the final stretch towards Christmas.
In some northern areas of Thessaly and Macedonia, it has been snowing since Tuesday and snow plowing vehicles are keeping the roads open in the mountainous regions.
Snowfall is continuing in some mountain areas of northern Greece while snow chains are mandatory for vehicles heading to the ski resorts of Voras-Kaimaktsalan (Pella region) and Lailias (Serres region).
Despite the sunshine in Thessaloniki and Central Macedonia, temperatures in Thessaloniki city particularly did not register above 03C.
The lowest temperatures on Wednesday were recorded in western Macedonia and the cities of Ptolemaida and Grevena (-08C), Kozani (-05C) and Florina (-02C).
Snow has also fallen in the towns of Lamia and Larissa; and Mount Parnitha, just north of Athens, is also dressed in white.
Police are advising drivers to take extra care, as many city dwellers are planning on travelling for the Christmas holidays.
