The Hellenic American Academy will host its 11th Annual Gala to start its 2018 fundraising initiative ‘The Time is Now’ on Saturday, February 17 at the Loews Chicago O’Hare.
Cathy Vlahogiannis, three-time Emmy Award-winning television producer and morning radio co-host and producer, will serve as the mistress of ceremonies.
Proceeds of this year’s initiative will go to enhancements to the technology program, projectors for every classroom, Chromebooks for each student and technological resources for the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program.
The Hellenic American Academy is also home of the Socrates Day School, a private institution that provides high-quality bilingual education to students from preschool up to eighth grade.
Every year, its students score in the 90th percentile in national standardized testing. The school also offers Greek language and culture courses on Saturdays for students as well as adults.
Over a thousand Greek-American children have been educated at the Academy during the last decade, making it the largest Greek-American educational institution in the Midwest.
The 11th gala will celebrate the school’s evolution and its future. ‘The Time is Now’ theme indicates that the Academy continues to redefine Greek-American education for the modern times.
The school is housed in a new location in Deerfield and the gala will be a celebration of its growth of over 20% increase in enrollment at the Academy’s day school.
This year the gala will honor two Hellenic business leaders who have been instrumental in preserving the Hellenic culture:
Heritage Award Recipient: George Behrakis.
George Behrakis is an eminent Greek-American businessman, medical researcher, retired pharmacist and philanthropist, who has contributed to many organizations and establishments.
Service Award Recipient: Peter Maroutsos.
Peter Maroutsos is a finance and operations executive in the financial services industry and argues that it is critical that Greeks preserve their Hellenic culture.
The gala starts at 6 P.M at the Loews Chicago O’Hare (5300 N. River Road, Rosemont, IL 60018)
