Delphi Bank 25th Greek Film Festival to kick off in Sydney on October 9 (video)

The Australian premiere of The Last Note, a drama by distinguished Greek filmmaker Pantelis Voulgaris, will kick off the Delphi Bank 25th Greek Film Festival in Sydney on October 9.

The story of the new film by Voulgaris takes place in Nazi-occupied Greece and stars Andreas Konstantinou (Cloudy Sunday, GFF 2017 Closing Night Film) as well as Greek-American actress Melia Kreiling (Guardians of the Galaxy).

Voulgaris and his wife, the acclaimed novelist Ioanna Karystiani, wrote the script which recounts the lead-up to the mass execution of 200 Greek war prisoners in the Chaidari concentration camp in retaliation to the ambush of four Nazi officers. Based on the final note of one of the victims, the film portrays the dignity of men even in the face of death.

“Celebrating 25 years of incredible Greek stories, we are very proud to open the Festival with a cinematic masterpiece from one of the country’s finest filmmakers,” noted Festival Chair, Nia Karteris. “It’s a remarkable film that not only reflects on companionship and loyalty, but pays tribute to Greece’s storied history.”

The screening that opens this year’s 12-day Festival (October 9 – 21) will be held at Palace Cinemas, Norton Street, Sydney.
