The major retrospective exhibition on the work of 1930s Greek painter Yiannis Moralis at the Benaki Museum has been elected as the cover story of the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) magazine ‘Praktoreio’ that comes out on Thursday, the same day that the exhibition opened its doors to the public.
The exhibition, which follows Moralis’ work since his early days in ’30s right up to the 2000s, is taking place at the museum’s 138 Pireos Street building and will run until January 5, 2018. It effectively continues and further expands on the first Moralis retrospective organised by the National Gallery in 1988, adding his work in the intervening years before his death and also presenting authentic set designs and costumes that he made for the National Theatre and National Ballet, as well as the greater part of the painter’s archives, which he donated to the National Bank of Greece Educational Institute.
