Thousands of people, locals and tourists, gathered in the center of the northern city of Thessaloniki to watch the military parade to commemorate ”OXI Day”, on the occasion of Italy’s invasion in Greece on October 28, 1940.
Greek civilian groups from across the country along with military units, including armored vehicles, tanks, infantry and special forces, marched in front of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos and the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella.
Formations of Hellenic Air-force fighters flew over the city, offering an amazing spectacle, as the skies cleared from clouds.
George Papadakis, the pilot of the F-16 fighter jet that performed a stunning air-show, said that ”Greece’s ‘NO’ is a source of unity and cooperation, as the Italian President’s presence proves. Let’s look upon our future with optimism and hope”.
