The Adelaide suburb of Woodville is preparing for a musical feast celebrating legendary Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis. The tribute concert will be held on Saturday at the Woodville Town Hall.
Mikis Theodorakis is one of the most iconic Greek composers and songwriters. His music has touched the hearts of Greeks worldwide for decades, and dazzles all who listen to it. Some of the music he has composed is not only recognizable in Greece, but around the world, such as Zorba the Greek film score. His many songs recanting the country’s struggle for freedom and justice remain popular among all generations. Theodorakis’ works combine inspirations derived from Byzantine, folk and urban music.
The concert tribute is being presented by the Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia. The lineup for Saturday’s event includes bouzouki player Angelo Avramakis and the voices of Tassos Bouyessis (State Opera, Australian Three Tenors), Anthea Sidiropoulos (Pearl – The Janis Joplin Show), Vasilis Ioannides (Harama, Notes), and Johanna Saltis (Themelia, Meraki). They will perform alongside a 14-piece fine music orchestra under the direction of Dr. Demeter Tsounis.
Tickets for the event cost $30.00 while more information is available from Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia at (08) 8231 4307.
