International Summer School Cavafy 2019 in Athens: The poet's orientations

For yet another summer, prominent academics and young researchers of Cavafy,  scholars, and young researchers of Cavafy’s work, all coming from different methodological paths and at different points in their career, meet at the Onassis Library in order to participate at the International Cavafy Summer School as their destination, int.ert.gr reports.

For the third consecutive year, this unique institution that is dedicated exclusively to Cavafy and the impact of his work, held by the Cavafy Archives and the Onassis Foundation, highlights new approaches and alternative interpretations of the great Alexandrian poet’s work.

The inaugural edition that took place in July 2017 focused on “The Cavafy in the World,” while in 2018, the international scholarly group engaged with the theme “Cavafy and Antiquity.” This year, during the six days of intensive seminars and workshops collectively titled “Cavafy’s Orient/ations” we will focus on the multiple (geographical, aesthetic, historical, etc.) topographies and cultural dynamics of Cavafy’s work, and will approach the Cavafy phenomenon in its broader geographical and historical range, both during the period of Cavafy’s life in Egypt’s Alexandria and in subsequent decades when his poetry became a major literary event at a global scale.

The working language of the International Summer School Cavafy will be English and the application deadline is January 31, 2019.
