16-year-old Greek Australian girl sets sights on Eurovision 2019 song contest (videos)

Greek-Australian teenager Leea Nanos will be a wildcard among ten performers competing to represent Australia in the 64th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, according to greekreporter.com.

The 16-year-old from Melbourne has been singing and writing music since the age of 11, performing for audiences, both large and small.

“Being the youngest and most inexperienced in the competition I know I’ll need to really bring my A-game to the stage,” she was quoted as saying by the news platform news.com.au.

“It’s unreal that I’ve got this opportunity to perform on the same stage as all of these high-profile Australian artists — artists I admire and aspire to be like.”

Leea Nanos joins Courtney Act, Aydan, Kate Miller-Heidke among others in the search to become Australia’s representative at the 2019 Eurovision in Tel Aviv next May.

Leea is the only unsigned artist, and also the youngest competitor. But she is set on proving that neither of these are disadvantages.

“I love the fact that [with my music] I can be unique, be myself, and have a voice and share it with the world – I just love that; there’s nothing else in this world that I connect with more than music,” she notes.

Australian fans will vote for their favorite artist and song to go to the world’s largest singing contest during the live SBS broadcast at 7:30 pm on February 9.
