Cooperation is the key for prosperity, peace and stability in the Balkans, speakers told the audience on Friday during the opening ceremony of the three-day Thessaloniki Regional Forum entitled “Today’s challenges, tomorrow’s prospects: Balkans 2030”, ANA reports.
The Thessaloniki Regional Forum is an independent, non-political, non-profit organization and a regional geopolitical initiative in which 11 Balkan countries take part. Its aim is to bring together leading political figures, intellectuals, academics and distinguished representatives of the public and private sector and the civil society of the Balkans in order to serve as a high-level platform of an open and progressive political regional dialogue.
The prinicpal topics on the agenda will include: the European prospects of countries in the Western Balkans; assessing the role of peripheral and international factors; the new economic agenda for the Balkans and the improvement of peripheral connections; the expansion of the EU’s Energy Union to the Western Balkans; refugee flows; and, finally, the issue of fake news and the challenges presented to democracy in the digital era.
