Thousands honor Greek victims of Holocaust at ”March of the Living” in Poland

The 31st ”March of the Living” taking place in Poland on Thursday, honors the thousands of Greek citizens who died in Nazi Germany‘s concentration camps during the Holocaust of World War II, greekreporter.com notes.

On Yom Hashoah day, or the Day of the Holocaust, over ten thousand Jews and non-Jews from across the world will march from Auschwitz to Birkenau, paying tribute to the millions of victims of Nazism.

This year, the event will commemorate and honor the Greek Jewish community as well as the other Greek citizens who were tortured and murdered as part of the brutality of Nazi Germany’s inhuman regime between 1933 and 1945.

The Greek Jewish community was brought to the verge of total extinction, as thousands of Jewish people were transported from Thessaloniki to Auschwitz in the early 1940s, where the vast majority of them died in unspeakable conditions.

Greece will send some of its most prominent leaders to honor this solemn event, including the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I.

The ”March of the Living 2019” will be attended by high-ranking officials and politicians from across the planet, including the Romanian Prime Minister and head of the European Council’s presidency Viorica Dăncilă, and the US Ambassador to Israel David Melech Friedman.

Other White House representatives, ambassadors from across Europe along with religious and political leaders will also take part in the events.
