Digital museum of Greek immigration to Canada inaugurated in Montréal

The official inauguration of the new Digital Museum of Greek Immigration to Canada took place on Friday, May 24, in Montréal, Quebec, Canada, according to greekreporter.com.

Part of ”ImmiGrec” and supported by Greece’s Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), the new Museum developed a huge digital online portal encompassing the totality of the Greek-Canadian immigrant experience from Greece to the enormous country of North America.

The event was hosted by McGill University and it involves the first phase of the Center for the Study of Greek Immigration and Diaspora.

The inauguration was attended by members of SNF along with the Greek ambassador to Canada, Dimitris Azemopoulos.

According to ImmiGrec, ”the Virtual Museum unfolds Greek history in Canada by providing access to timelines, interactive maps and historical commentary, archival databases and links to relevant sources.”

Greek immigration to Canada goes back to the early twentieth century, as a part of the broader transatlantic exodus of peoples from Southern and Eastern Europe to America.
