“The Hellenic Initiative Canada” (THI Canada) managed to raise a whopping $200,000 on May 30, as a result of hosting its second-ever ”Annual Montreal Cocktail” event, according to greekreporter.com.
The night was dedicated to and focused on the impressive work of doctors who help the most vulnerable and those in need in Greece.
Held in the heart of the old city of Montreal, the gala event was an impressive success as it hosted more than 400 people who were happy to help support healthcare in Greece.
The monies raised will help many Greek individuals and families who need medical support but whose situation does not allow them to fully access their right to wellbeing.
The Hellenic Initiative was launched several years ago to tackle the effects of Greece’s unprecedented financial crisis, a downturn which plunged many Greeks into near-poverty, altering the lives of millions of people forever.
The economic depression of the past decade changed Greek society dramatically, and despite the important improvements of the last few years, the scars of the crisis are still visible.
The Hellenic Initiative says on its website that together with its relief partners, it is answering the call for assistance by providing a critical safety net to families hardest hit by the crisis.
