2019 Athens Democracy Forum to be organized in Greece during October

This year’s Athens Democracy Forum will be held between October 9 to 11, 2019 in the Greek capital, according to greekreporter.com.

The Forum’s organizers announced that it will bring senior New York Times journalists together with international business leaders, policymakers, academics, and experts, in order to discuss the state of democracy currently and what action it requires in the face of mounting challenges.

As of this year, the Forum is held by the independent non-profit entity called the Democracy & Culture Foundation, in association with The New York Times, which continues to curate the subjects to be discussed and to publish special reports on them.

The aim of the 2019 Athens Democracy Forum is to explore the forces of alternative models of governance and how to deal with them.

The central topics to be debated feature: We and Them: The Tectonic Plates of Nationalism and Multiculturalism; The Echo Chamber and the Agora: The Use and Abuse of New and Social Media; and The Cost of Inequality: Where Has All the Money Gone?

Additional topics include Back to Basics: What Must Be Done to Restore Faith in Democracy and The Collapse of the Traditional Party.

The Forum takes place under the auspices of His Excellency the President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopios Pavlopoulos.
