In a real fusion of music styles, renowned American chamber music artists will present their repertoire at sites around Greece – where, in ancient times music came from the lyre, aulos, and pan flute – so unlike the modern technology devices of today.
Live From Lincoln Center will present its first international production next month. Odyssey: The Chamber Music Society in Greece, which features the music of Beethoven, Debussy, and Mendelssohn. It will air on PBS on Sept. 6, Playbill said in a report on the program.
Artists from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will embark on a musical journey to the country widely considered the cradle of Western musical civilization, it was said, and while in Greece will perform at a range of venues including the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens and the First Ancient Theatre of Larissa, an amphitheater dating back to the Third Century B.C.
The core of the adventure is the unique intimacy of chamber music performances in extraordinary places while highlighting the Greek cultural influences that still resonate within our language, arts, philosophy, and civic life, the group’s site said.
