Earlier this year Giorgos Xylouris and his sons Antonis and Nikos, joined forces with the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble for a special performance at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Netherlands, greekcitytimes.com reports.
Giorgos Xylouris (nicknamed Psarogiorgis) is an iconic Cretan folk musician, born into a Greek musical family of incomparable stature. His uncle, Nikos Xylouris, is arguably one of the most iconic Greek performers of all time. Nicknamed the “archangel of Crete,” his songs are part of the fabric of modern Greek music.
The Nederlands Blazers Ensemble (NBE) comprises of musicians from all the major Dutch symphony orchestras. Playing together for the sheer joy of it, the NBE’s twenty or so members meet up around eighty times per year to perform special programs both in the Netherlands and abroad.
It definitely was an unbelievable and memorable performance.
Giorgos Stratakis, a well known Cretan musician also expressed his admiration on Facebook, stating that “there are no words to fit all the emotions that flow through this video. Apart from the wonderful musicians of the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble in Concertgebouw, the modesty and pride of the unique Psarogiorgis, as well as the talents, craftsmanship and charismatic character of his children, Antonis and Nikos X!”
