Vancouver’s Annual Greek Summerfest to go on this year despite pandemic

Vancouver’s Annual Greek Summerfest announced that it will have its 34th consecutive year of celebration in 2020, serving delicious food to patrons to-go style, according to greekreporter.com.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was uncertain whether or not the celebration would take place. While details are still being worked out, the event is now reported to be in its finalizing stages to ensure that Covid-19 health and safety protocols are met.

“Our top priority is public health and safety; we are taking steps to uphold social distancing and follow cleaning protocols, and guidelines around mass gatherings by offering a take-out (order and pick-up) only service this year!” organizers noted on the event’s Facebook page.

The Vancouver Greek Summerfest is an annual culinary event that celebrates Greek food, experiences, entertainment and family fun. During previous years, the Summerfest featured traditional music, dance, and songs for attendants.

Patrons from all across Vancouver come to the event in order to indulge in the celebration and to partake in Greek culture amongst a diverse community.

Last year’s fundraisers saw performances including Asi Somos, Zougla, tribute artist Gotta B George Michael, bouzouki music with Yannis Sahamis, and DJ services by Alpha Music.

The 34th Annual Vancouver Summerfest To-Go will be held at St. Nicholas and Dimitrios Greek Orthodox Church, located at 4641 Boundary Road, Vancouver, BC.

The event will take place from Thursday, July 9, 2020 to Sunday, July 19, 2020.

More information about the celebration and the itinerary can be found on their website.
