The Civil Servants Confederation (ADEDY) has declared a nationwide 24-hour strike for the celebration of Labour Day on Thursday, May 6 and a rally at Klafthmonos Square at 11:00 the same day. The celebration of Labour Day has been moved to alternative dates as May 1 this year coincides with Orthodox Holy Saturday, ANA reports.
According to an ADEDY announcement, this year’s celebration comes at an exceptionally negative conjecture for the country’s workers “as the New Democracy government is attempting to abolish fundamental labour rights and trade union freedoms, which the protesting Chicago workers gave their lives for in 1886.”
