President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, during a visit to the island of Hydra for the “Miaouleia 2021” anniversary events that are held each year, on Sunday noted that the island, 200 years after the Revolution of 1821, “preserves its patriotic tradition in fine shape and transfers the wealth of the past intact to the future,” ANA reports.
Sakellaropoulou arrived on Hydra on Saturday and watched a re-enactment of the Naval Battle of Gerontas on Saturday night, while on Sunday she attended a mass at the island’s cathedral and laid a wreath at the statue of Admiral Andreas Miaoulis, a hero of the 1821 Revolution against the rule of Ottoman Turkey.
