The Andreas T. Stamboulidis Parthenon AHEPA Chapter 495 in Whitestone, NY, sponsored the coffee social at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church following the Divine Liturgy on January 29 and also hosted a cultural presentation by AHEPA District 6 Director of Hellenism Vassilios (Billy) Chrissochos, whose lecture was titled ‘Introduction to Byzantium.’ This event was well-attended and well-received by the parishioners.
Chrissochos provided a brief journey through the millennia-plus-long Byzantine History. The global contributions of Byzantium to civilization in Europe, the Middle East, and the rest of the world were discussed. Saints’ lives, emperors, and other historical figures, as well as key events, were touched upon demonstrating how they intertwine to form a cohesive picture of Medieval, Christian Greek life.
