For the first time in its history and on the occasion of the celebrations of March 25 in New York, the Region of Western Greece will be represented at the events and parade for the anniversary of Greek Independence on 5th Avenue, which is the largest event of the Greek Diaspora worldwide.
Specifically, during their stay, the representatives of the delegation will be invited to parade on 5th Avenue together with thousands of Greek Diaspora from the Tri-State Area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut) as well as Federal Representatives, Senators, and state officials from the American metropolis.
At the same time, the delegation of the Western Greece Region will attend events such as the raising of the Greek flag at the emblematic Bowling Green Park on Wall Street – which will be preceded by a doxology and a small parade from the National Shrine of Saint Nicholas at Ground Zero – the Masters of Ceremonies Dinner and the morning reception at the Pierre, before the parade.
The agenda includes a series of events such as a speech before the Greek diaspora and high-ranking officials at the New York events, while meetings will be scheduled with the Consul General of Greece in New York, Ifigenia Kanara, the Archbishop of America, Mr. Elpidophoros, the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce and other organizations.
In addition, gatherings and events will be planned with representatives of the national-local associations that have their roots in Western Greece, some of which are among the most numerous and have a historical role in the diaspora.
The Objectives of the Region of Western Greece for 2025
According to the Region of Western Greece, the conditions are more auspicious than ever to achieve a dynamic repositioning on the tourist map. 2024 was a year in which its services were upgraded with know-how, with new actions, and through the promotional activities of the brand name “Olympic Land”. The Region also expanded its target markets, began to reach out to the public and potential visitors, and developed coordinated actions to attract diverse visitors, in the context of organizing international sporting events, the digital promotion of the gastronomic footprint, the promotion of the cultural product through an online short film competition, the promotion of the conference potential of the Region of Western Greece, and other actions.
In this context, the Region of Western Greece estimates that it has become known as an emerging tourist destination that can strengthen its tourism potential even further in the coming years.
In this direction, plans include participation in the Sympossio Greek Gourmet Touring 2025, in 2 cities abroad, where a special gastronomic event will be held with products and recipes from the wider region, digital promotion of local flavors, especially wine and agrotourism interest, as well as the creation of a digital campaign to attract new catering entrepreneurs and local producers, within the framework of the provision of a Greek Traditional Breakfast.
