With August marking the peak of the summer season, a wide range of events and activities are taking place across Greece under the auspices and support of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO). These events strengthen Greece’s international image as a destination for thematic tourism, including cultural, gastronomic, educational, religious, and wellness tourism.
The events include Rudu Fest Amorgos 2025, the Kalloni Sardine Festival, the Greek Language Summer Camp for Children, the initiative “Alternative Routes of Culture, Faith, Spirituality, and Digital Innovation in Crete”, and the “Gains and Planes” event.
Rudu Fest Amorgos 2025
Starting on Sunday, July 27, 2025, the fourth annual Rudu Fest Amorgos began, financially supported by the GNTO. The festival’s program includes live performances by well-known and popular Greek artists, DJ sets, and parties taking place throughout the island — from Chora and Aegiali to Katapola and Nikouria. The festival aims to promote Amorgos as a safe destination offering authentic and immersive experiences while fostering a deeper connection between visitors and the island, its people, and its culture. The festival runs until August 1.
Kalloni Sardine Festival, Lesvos
From August 1 to 3, 2025, the Sardine Festival will take place in Skala Kallonis, the most popular gastronomic event on Lesvos, attracting thousands of Greek and foreign visitors each year. The festival began 42 years ago to honor the area’s rich fishing tradition and its iconic sardine (known locally as “papalina”), the most famous product of the Kalloni Gulf. Over the years, it has become a major institution for Lesvos, hosting acclaimed chefs, journalists, and opinion leaders, aiming to promote local products, boost the local economy, and enhance the island’s international profile — all within the festive atmosphere of a traditional celebration.
Greek Language Summer Camp for Children – Corinthia
From August 2 to 11, the Greek Language Summer Camp will take place in Sofiko, Corinthia, organized by The Greek Online School. The camp is designed for children aged 6–15 from various countries including the UK, Germany, France, the USA, the UAE, and Australia. Children are grouped according to their Greek language proficiency and attend daily lessons, combined with cultural and sports activities throughout the day. The program’s goals are to build friendships and deepen the participants’ knowledge of the Greek language, culture, and history.
Cultural Innovation in Crete: August 18–30
From August 18 to 30, various locations in Crete will host the initiative “Living Tradition and Cultural Innovation: Alternative Routes of Culture, Faith, Spirituality, and Digital Innovation in Crete”. This series of events includes workshops, lectures, and hands-on experiences with a focus on alternative, research-based, and pilgrimage tourism. Key themes include Orthodox spirituality, artistic expression, and new technologies (such as AR, 3D mapping, and digital iconography). The events are held in collaboration with monasteries, museums, and academic institutions, with locations including the Monastery of Koudoumas, the Monastery of Toplou, and the Asterousia Museums. The program is organized by the LOOX Organization for Research, Innovation, and Culture, and is part of the Greek Ministry of Culture’s program “All of Greece, One Culture.”
Gains and Planes – Rhodes
From August 29 to September 1, Gains and Planes will be held in Rhodes. Participants will have access to fitness activities, yoga, HIIT workouts, dance-based classes, group excursions, and themed events. This is the first time the event is being held in Greece. Its purpose is to promote the country as a global hub for alternative and wellness tourism. The event is expected to attract over 600 participants, primarily from the United Kingdom, where the organizing company is based.
