What to do this week (November 5-12)

Everything worth experiencing this week: From a visit to the Goulandris National Museum of Natural History, to the gastronomic premiere of the dry-aged fish concept at YDORON, to laughter at the theatrical play “The Name”, with music by Goran Bregović, and a cinephile journey to the French “Nouvelle Vague”.

Goulandris National Museum of Natural History

On the occasion of its recognition as the National Museum of Natural History and the inauguration of the new exhibition “Biodiversity: Everything Connected”, created with a donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), the Goulandris Museum is now one of the most important destinations for natural history in Greece. Founded in 1965 by Nikos and Maro Goulandris, the museum hosts thousands of exhibits – from animals, minerals and fossils to interactive presentations – and highlights the relationship between humans and nature. The new exhibition illuminates biodiversity as a network of life, with interactive digital exhibits and holographic projections. We recommend a visit to explore the wondrous complexity of nature and connect with the world around you. (‘Oonos 100, Kifissia, www.gnhm.gr)

A new era in marine gastronomy

On the second floor of the historic Pittakis mansion (Pittaki 1 & Ermou 92-94), YDORON inaugurates on November 11 a new philosophy around the taste of the sea. Signed by executive chef Nikos Apostolakis – who specializes in the dry aging technique of fish and is the owner of the Liystor and YDORON restaurants.

A gastronomic project that treats fish with the finesse of a steakhouse, combining the art of dry aging with the science of technique. The elegant cuts of fish acquire depth, complexity and pure flavor, while the curated wine cellar completes the experience. With a minimalist space and the signature of the Liystor creative team, YDORON celebrates the sea through simplicity, precision and respect for the product.

“The name”: Laughter with substance

“Can we tell our friends what we believe about them or only what they would like to hear? An experiment will convince us…”. The multi-award-winning French play “The Name” is being performed at the Athena Theatre, directed by Konstantinos Markoulakis. It is the Greek adaptation of the famous French comedy “Le Prénom” which was nominated in 2011 for 6 Molière Awards. Its film adaptation in 2012 was a worldwide success and reached 2.5 million viewers. A single name is enough to turn relationships and lifelong friendships upside down, in the most impressive way! Starring Hieroklis Michaelides, Renia Louizidou, Krateros Katsoulis, Dora Makrygianni, Lefteris Zampetakis. Let’s discover together how thin the line is between “truth” and “easy peace” and why a simple name can shake lifelong friendships.

Aperitivo Birthday Bash

Three years of AMI means three years of taste, music and endless aperitivo spirit – and that calls for a big party! On Tuesday, November 11, from 18:30, we raise our glasses high with Campari cocktails, enjoy exclusive cicchetti and dance to the rhythms of Mind Enterprises, who come live in Greece for the first time with unique electro-italo energy.

Three top chefs sign the Cicchetti Experience, while Campari Takeover takes care of signature cocktails especially for the evening. (Voulis &, Apollon)

Goran Bregović Live in Athens — The soul of the Balkans comes alive on stage

The legendary Goran Bregović returns to Athens for a unique musical celebration at the Christmas Theater, on Wednesday, November 12. The Balkan composer, creator of inimitable film hits such as Ederlezi, Mesecina and Kalasnjikov, comes together with the Wedding & Funeral Band for an evening full of passion, rhythm and emotion. The program includes excerpts from the monumental Three Letters from Sarajevo, an anthem to his birthplace, but also the great hits that have been associated with the history of Balkan music. An evening where music transcends words and the soul of the Balkans comes alive on stage.

“Nouvelle Vague”— The Birth of the French Nouvelle Vague on the Big Screen

In 1959, Jean-Luc Godard, a former film critic, manages to convince producer Georges de Beauregard to finance his first feature film, based on an idea by François Truffaut. The film, (106’) directed by Richard Linklater, takes us back to the era of the birth of the French Nouvelle Vague, the cinematic movement that forever changed the way films are made. Starring Aubrey Doulin, Zoe Deutsch and Guillaume Marbec, the film is a tribute to the creativity, freshness and audacity of the early years of Godard and Truffaut, but also a thrilling ride for all those who love cinema.
