With participation from 35 countries, the 25th European Conference on Environmental Chemistry (EMEC25), which started yesterday in Chania and will last until November 25, acquires a strong international character and highlights the position of Crete as a meeting place for the cutting edge of scientific research. The organization is held under the auspices of the Association for Chemistry and the Environment (ACE) and EuChemS, with the Technical University of Crete playing the central role through Professor Eleftheria (Elia) Psyllaki of the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering.
At this point, it should be emphasized that this year’s EMEC25 is recording an extremely high interest: 184 participants have registered for participation and 177 scientific papers are presented in the program. The conference sessions include 3 plenary lectures, 13 keynote lectures, 36 oral presentations, 31 flash presentations and 94 poster presentations, reflecting the intensity and diversity of the scientific output.
In addition, over 50 PhD students participate in the event, which emphasizes the new generation of scientists and awards awards for excellence and innovation. The thematic areas of the conference extend across the entire spectrum of environmental chemistry: environmental monitoring, pollutant transport, sustainable solutions, environmental toxicology and emerging scientific issues.
EMEC25 is hosted at the Mikis Theodorakis Theater in the Venetian Port of Chania, while the wide international participation from Europe, Asia, South America and Oceania confirms the global impact of the event. At the same time, Crete is strengthening its footprint as a destination that systematically supports sustainability, innovation and scientific dialogue.
