12 private tourist planes from Germany, Slovenia, Croatia and Austria approached the safe and hospitable airport of Sitia at noon on Tuesday after cooperation with the Panhellenic Pilots’ Union.
The mission was accompanied by the editor-in-chief of the German specialized magazine AEROINTRNATIONAL, Thomas Borchert.
The flying visitors were welcomed with a symbolic traditional treat and informative material about the region by the Deputy Mayor for Everyday Life, Mr. Nikos Fygetakis, the CEO of OAS, Mr. Costas Vassilakis, and the Tourism Advisor of OAS, Ms. Christy Papadaki.
Air tourism is a special form of tourism. The goal of its development is the tourist and, by extension, the economic development of regional mainland and island destinations of the country, with particular natural beauty and a multitude of thematic tourist products, which they are able to offer to their visitors, throughout the year.
The Municipality of Sitia, within the overall planning of a quality tourism approach, also invests in this form of tourism with specific actions and contacts.
Of decisive importance for the start of this collaboration was the contribution of the President of the Panhellenic Pilots’ Union, Mr. George Tsiprianis, as well as Mr. Christos Leontopoulos, head of the Panhellenic Pilots’ Union’s department for the promotion of Air Tourism in Greece, whom the Municipality warmly thanks.
