Long-time GNTO executive Angeliki Varela has been appointed as the new president of the GNTO.
The Ministry of Tourism’s announcement in detail:
“The Ministry of Tourism announces the appointment of the new President of the Hellenic Tourism Organization (HTO), Ms. Angeliki Varela, following a relevant decision by the Minister of Tourism, Ms. Olga Kefalogianni, following the completion of the foreseen competitive procedure, in accordance with the provisions of Law 5062/2023.
The assumption of the presidency of the HTO by Angeliki (Angela) Varela marks a high-profile choice for the Organization.
An executive with a long and multi-level career, Angela Varela knows Greek tourism like few others, not only at a theoretical but mainly at an operational level.
During her many years of career, she has effectively served critical sectors of the HTO, possessing a rare combination of experience, dedication, knowledge and ethics.
Her appointment is a recognition of its long course, an act of meritocracy and at the same time a guarantee of leadership with competence, insight and strategic perception in the face of the great challenges of the new era.
The Ministry of Tourism expresses its warm thanks to the outgoing President, Mrs. Angela Gerekou, for her six-year contribution and the substantial work she accomplished during her term. With consistency, dynamism and commitment to the vision of extroversion, she contributed decisively to strengthening the role of the Greek National Tourism Organization, strengthening the international image of the country and actively supporting Greece’s tourism strategy in demanding conditions. Her contribution leaves a strong imprint and is recognized with respect and appreciation.
