Russian tour operators urged to switch to domestic tourism

Russian tour operator will not face immediate losses from the travel ban in Turkey, since the season is over, Head of the Federal Tourism Agency – Rosturizm, Oleg Safonov said today.

Mr. Safonov added that on 24 November, when diplomatic crisis between Russia and Turkey erupted, 9964 Russian tourists were located in Turkey and today there are only 919. He urged again tour operators to adapt their strategies to domestic tourism, so they do not have business losses.

Same levels as last year

Until now, however, as stated by tour operators representatives, reservations for Christmas holidays in Russian resorts remain at last year’s levels and there seems to be no apparent mood among Russians to choose domestic destinations.

Turkey and Egypt hosted over eight million Russian tourists.
