Athens is among the 50 most popular European city destinations for the Christmas holiday season, according to a trivago survey.
The Greek capital ranks 24th while the first places in the list are occupied by London, Paris and Berlin, followed by Rome.
In each of these cities, the average length of stay is 6 days with prices ranging from 98 to 177 euros, with London being the most expensive.
Most competitive prices
The same holiday duration applies for those who visit Athens and the average price of Athenian hotels seems to be among the lowest and most competitive, despite its high popularity as a Christmas destination.
With an average price of 74 euros for the Christmas holiday season, Athens ranks among the five cheapest in the list after Valencia, Krakow and Malaga and at the same level with Hungary.
Athens is the only Greek city presented in the rankings, where Spanish citys occupied 13 spots, Italian seven 6 German six.
Most expensive cities
The two most expensive cities are located in Spain and Italy, namely, Cortina d’Ampezzo with an average price of 385 euros per night, and Costa Adeje with 257 euros.
The survey was conducted between January 1 and November 30, 2015, for trip dates that include the December 24-26 weekend.
