The tiny Greek islet of Agios Nikolaos is a special place with a wide beach and crystal, shallow waters at the entrance of the island of Lefkada in the Ionian Sea.
It is a place which also provided inspiration for one of Greece’s most acclaimed lyric poets, Angelos Sikelianos.
A few days ago, a YouTube user named Haanity made public a drone video showcasing the panoramic view of this heavenly place. Immediately the video went viral, reaching over 55,000 views.
The islet’s chapel was constructed on the ruins of an ancient temple dedicated to Aphrodite and was a favorite spot for fishermen.
This is the place Sikelianos chose with his U.S. wife Eva to raise their family. It was also here where the writer found inspiration to write his poems.
Sikelianos lived his best years on this isolated spot, spending rainy days and endless winter months writing and reading under a tent. It was here that his small son Glaucus learned to swim even a few months before learning to walk.
