The municipality of Gavdos decided to participate as a member of the Civil Non-Profit Company “Cooperation Network of Municipalities of Eastern Mani and Gavdos”, responding to an initiative of the municipality of Eastern Mani.
Specifically, the municipality of Eastern Mani had as its vision the creation of an organization, in collaboration with the Municipality of Gavdos and the Development Parnonas SA, with the aim of developing actions, programs and initiatives of social policy and cultural, historical, developmental, artistic, scientific content and character.
The main objectives of the Network include, among others, the following:
-Supporting sustainable tourism development and strengthening infrastructure and services, supporting employment and entrepreneurship, and implementing “intangible” interventions in relation to networking, coordinating and organizing actions to inspire the local population, and developing the capacities of local actors in the intervention areas.
-Planning and implementing actions, seeking funding through development programs, European programs, and community funding, as well as collective contributions and exploring revenue generation from the provision of promotion and outreach services.
-Supporting rural development (agriculture, livestock farming, fishing, forestry, promotion of agricultural products).
-Achieving integrated, long-term, and sustainable development that includes job creation and improving the quality of life.
-Enhancing competitiveness, protecting the environment,t and supporting knowledge according to the mix of selected interventions of the local strategy, as well as contributing to the achievement of cross-cutting objectives for innovation and the environment.
-Establishing scientific committees and working groups to study and implement the Company’s initiatives in the cultural, artistic, developmental, training, research, educational, and humanitarian sectors.
-Collaborating with educational institutions and organizations to create schools within the administrative boundaries of the municipalities.
-Participating in local, national, transnational, and international activities and programs of cultural and other exchanges aimed at creating institutions that promote the appropriation of benefits and their management by local communities.
In addition, the Network aims to develop international collaborations with other mainland and island regions.
