Corporate flier, Gainjet, is seeking a licence from the Irish authorities that will allow it launch services from the Republic,
The Greek-based charter specialist has applied to the Irish Aviation Authority for an air operator’s certificate, which will it allow operate from the Republic.
The company is planning to open a base at Shannon Group’s International Aviation Services Centre, according to recent reports.
Gainjet Ireland will locate three aircraft at Shannon Airport, two business jets and an air ambulance, and hopes to begin flying next year.
Private charter services
The company offers private charter services, along with aircraft management and maintenance.
It also repossesses aircraft for leasing companies and finance houses whose clients have failed to pay rent or meet repayments.
Its chief executive, Captain Ramsey Shaban, cited the fact that Shannon is a centre for leasing companies as one of the reasons it chose the Republic as a base.
The others included its strategic location and its suitability for transatlantic traffic.
