Approximately 2.5 million passengers travelled to and from Greece with easyJet in 2016, an increase of 40 pct from 2010.
During this record year, easyJet launched 5 new routes offering Greek passengers even more travel options in Europe and giving European tourists the opportunity to come directly to the most popular Greek resorts: from Rhodes to Amsterdam, from Mykonos to Venice, from Lyon to Nice, from Santorini to Venice. Since 2010, the company has increased its investment in Greece by an average of over 9 pct, while in 2017 the investment is expected to increase in Greek seaside resorts by 7 pct with 4 new routes announced earlier in the winter: from Rhodes to London (Luton) and Hamburg, from Preveza to Manchester and from Cephalonia to Bristol.
“Greek destinations are particularly popular for holidays among Europeans and this is evidenced by the fact that tourism has increased by 10 pct (SETE and airport figures) in 2016 compared to 2015 in Greece. International flights, mainly from European cities, also rose by 5.7 pct in the same year. EasyJet is very excited to contribute to the strengthening of the tourist flow towards Greece, with more and more passengers coming from Europe every year. EasyJet also offers easy and affordable travel solutions for Greek passengers as it has direct links to 76 European destinations (this summer),” said Sophie Dekkers, UK Country Director of easyJet.
