The air transport and its contribution in the tourist economy of Greece were examined at Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura’s meeting with the CEO of Fraport Greece Alexander Zinell and the general director of Fraport Commercial and Business Development Giorgos Vilos.
According to a ministry’s announcement, the two sides talked about the contribution of the scheduled upgrading of the 14 regional airports whose management has assumed Fraport as well as Tourism Ministry’s plans on the tourist development of new and traditional destinations and the strengthening of their connectivity with new markets.
Fraport’s representatives briefed the Minister on their plans for the 14 airports and the increase of the tourist traffic recorded in the first seven months of 2017 in all destinations.
Over 9,000 more flights have been executed in comparison with the same period in 2016 and over 1 million additional tourists have arrived in the 14 regional airports of the country compared with the same period in 2016.
Zinell reassured that the upgrading works in the regional airports will be finished very soon, before the start of the next tourist season. Fraport’s aim is the improvement of the offered services and the further tourist development of the destinations, said Zinell.
Kountoura briefed Fraport officials on the implemented tourist policy, the agreements and the strategic cooperation with major tour operators and air carriers that led to the spectacular rise of the tourist traffic in 2017.
