Some 21,100 passengers and 55 international flights arrived at Athens International Airport on July 1, the first day of the full nationwide reopening of Greek airports, Athens airport officials said on Thursday, according to ANA.
This is a considerable rise compared to the 12,000 passengers and 30 international flights that arrived at Athens International Airport on June 30, they added.
The international airports at Athens and Thessaloniki had reopened on June 15.
Meanwhile, on July 1 budget air carrier Ryanair relaunched its full flight itinerary out of Athens, towards 30 international destinations.
Dutch tourists arrive at Lesvos and Samos
The first tourists to arrive on Lesvos island following the global outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, 110 Dutch nationals, arrived at the Mytilini airport on Thursday afternoon, a day after Greece opened all airports to direct international flights.
The same Corendon Airlines flight also landed at Samos island, where another 60 Dutch tourists disembarked.
At the Lesvos airport, they were welcomed with traditional music and dancing, and samples of local cuisine. The event was held by the North Aegean Region, the association of tourism agents and the Lesvos chamber of commerce.
Following the protocol at all airports with arrivals from abroad, 30 passengers were tested randomly for Covid-19.
Another flight with Dutch nationals is programmed for Friday, while a TUI flight with tourists from the Netherlands is also scheduled for mid-July.
