A new route from Belgium to Greece has been announced by Ryanair for the summer of 2025.
Specifically, the airline is introducing the new Brussels (Charleroi airport) – Volos (Nea Anchialos airport) connection.
In a press conference given by Ryanair for the announcement of a total of four new routes from Brussels airport (to Volos, Katowice, Rome, and Salerno), CEO Michael O’Leary stated that the airport in question is a base for 18 of the company’s aircraft, 4 Boeing 737-800s and 14 Boeing 737 MAX 8-200s.
He also criticized the high charges at Brussels Airport, warning that Ryanair will not expand its operations there in 2025. As the airline claims, since the pandemic, the airport’s charges have increased by 20% and are expected to increase further in 2025, making it uncompetitive compared to other European airports that are lowering charges to boost passenger flows.
Ryanair insists on its commitment to growth in Europe, aiming to expand its annual passengers over the next decade from 200 million to 300 million.
Mr. O’Leary finally pointed out that the company intends to eliminate paper boarding passes by May 2025 and ultimately eliminate airport check-in for passengers traveling with hand luggage only.
