British Foreign Office | Warning of flight cancellations in Greece on Friday

The British Foreign Office, as it usually does in similar cases, issued a warning on Monday night for flight cancellations and delays in Greece on Friday (28/2), due to mass demonstrations on this day, which marks two years since the tragedy in Tempe.

As the British ministry states, the mass demonstrations will lead to “widespread disruption” in public services and transport, especially in domestic and international flights to and from all airports in Greece, as Greek air traffic controllers are also participating in the 24-hour strike.

It is also emphasized that there will be extensive disruptions in the operation of public services, including hospitals, where only emergency cases will be treated.

EasyJet has already warned that all airlines flying to and from Greece on Friday “may experience some disruption”.

Aegean Airlines is offering refunds, free flight changes, or credit vouchers to passengers flying on Friday.

Earthquake advice for Cyclades

The Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) is also updating its advice for the islands of Santorini, Anafi, Ios, and Amorgos as seismic activity continues.

The FCDO notes: “The area around the Cyclades islands of Santorini, Anafi, Ios, and Amorgos is currently experiencing frequent earthquakes which are likely to continue for several weeks.

The Greek authorities have advised residents of these areas not to attend large gatherings indoors, to avoid old or abandoned buildings and the ports of Ammoudi, Armeni, Korfos, and Palaio Limenas in the Fira area, and to choose safe routes when traveling, particularly in areas where the risk of landslides is high. In the event of a strong earthquake, people should immediately leave coastal areas.

It recommends that any Britons on these islands stay informed of developments and follow the advice of local authorities and emergency services.
