The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace approved the design and implementation of a strategic plan for the development of Kavala and Alexandroupoli airports.
For the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, the development of Kavala and Alexandroupoli airports can be achieved through targeted cooperation actions with airlines. These actions include the creation of new routes and the promotion of the regions as attractive tourist destinations. The Region can implement targeted marketing programs and provide incentives to airlines, such as synergies with local bodies, thus strengthening its competitiveness.
A critical factor for airport development is the fact that airlines take into account various factors when selecting new routes, such as economic indicators, destination attractiveness, market demand, population growth, urbanization, and business activity. Understanding these factors is important for airports seeking to develop new routes.
Taking into account the above elements, it was deemed necessary to design and implement an integrated strategic airline development and airport marketing plan for the airports of Kavala and Alexandroupoli, with the aim of:
• Highlighting the attractiveness of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
• Creating a competitive advantage over other tourist destinations in the Mediterranean.
• Increasing passenger traffic at the two airports and general tourist activity.
The scope of the service is the design and implementation of a strategic airline development and airport marketing plan for the airports of Kavala and Alexandroupolis. The implementation of the Strategic Airline Development and Airport Marketing Plan for the airports of Kavala and Alexandroupolis will be based on the most modern techniques and best practices of the airline and airport industry.
Specifically for Kavala airport, the plan will be implemented in close cooperation with Fraport Greece, ensuring maximum efficiency. It is noted that attracting airlines is a medium- and long-term process that requires substantial time, given the planning phases of the airlines. While there are limited airlines that make decisions on routes 3 months in advance, most airlines need 12-18 months.
