Fraport: Which destinations “broke the meters” in April – “Low flights” to Santorini

Passenger traffic at the 14 Regional airports managed by Fraport Greece increased by 4.9% in April 2025 compared to the same month in 2024, with the increase for the first four months of the year reaching +3.7%.

The total number of passengers handled at the 14 airports in April amounted to 1.75 million compared to 1.67 million last year, while passengers for the four months amounted to 3.9 million compared to 3.76 million. The first 4 months of 2024.

Regarding April, which marks one of the first months of the summer season for Greek destinations, passenger traffic increased by 82,590 passengers.

The largest increase is found at Thessaloniki Airport (+8.1%) with the movement of 46,945 more passengers than April 2024 and at Rhodes Airport (+12%) where 40,628 more passengers were moved compared to April 2024, with the total traffic rising to 377,930.

Chania (+6.5%), with 12,210 more passengers handled compared to last year and a total of 199,102, Kos (+14.3%) with +9,651 and a total of 77,289, Corfu (+4.9%) with +7,989 and a total of 170,830 and Mytilene (+17.3%) with +5,298 and a total of 36,011.

The first 4 months of 2025 “closed” with 140,985 more passengers handled at the 14 regional airports compared to the corresponding period last year.

In particular, Thessaloniki recorded the largest increase, by 8.3%, attracting 154,046 more transit passengers compared to the first four months of 2024.

This was followed by Rhodes (+6.8%) with +36,358, to 574,769, Chania (+3.5%) with +13,430, to 399,602, Kos (+8.9%) with +11,373, to 138,474 and Mytilene (+5%), with +5,338 and a total of 111,296 transit passengers.

“Hole” of 81,500 in passenger traffic in Santorini

At the same time, decreases are noted at the airports of Santorini (-27.8%), Skiathos (-28.6%), and Aktion (-4.3%). In particular, Santorini, still facing the consequences of the seismic activity of February, “lost” over 49,500 passengers in the traffic of its airport in April, with the total reaching 129,269 compared to 178,946 in the corresponding month of 2024. In fact, from the beginning of the year until April, Santorini has lost over 81,500 passengers.

This picture is also reflected in the seat planning for Santorini, which, according to SETE’s Airdata Tracker, shows a decrease of 28.8% for April, mainly from markets such as the UK, France, Switzerland, Belgium, and Israel.

At the same time, Mykonos in April seems to be “untangling” from the influence of the seismic activity in the Aegean, showing a small recovery of around 1% (to 46,444 passengers) compared to last year, although the 4-month traffic for the island remains in negative territory (-9.4%, to 70,316 passengers), with a loss of 7,265 in total traffic. It is recalled that the seat planning for Mykonos shows an increase of 2% for April.
