The procedures for the creation of a Destination Management and Promotion Organization in Nisyros are progressing, as the relevant Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Tourism was approved.
In particular, the Ministry of Tourism is implementing the Destination Management project, which is financed within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, with funding from the European Union.
The project concerns the improvement of destination management through the establishment and operation of local and/or regional Destination Management and Promotion Organizations and Sustainable Tourism Development Observatories. These Observatories are interconnected with the National Sustainable Tourism Development Observatory.
The project includes the financing of the necessary studies and the provision of technical support for the establishment and operation of Destination Management and Promotion Organizations for the efficient and effective governance of the country’s individual destinations, the facilitation of cooperation between the various authorities and co-responsible bodies at local and regional level, as well as the formation of a quality, diversified, competitive, modern and sustainable tourism product, under the condition of non-double financing of the same expenditure through other financial tools, from national and/or European resources.
Within the framework of the project, an analysis of the current situation of the destination will be carried out, focusing indicatively on the existing tourism resources and services, the tourism figures, the available and to-be-implemented tourism and support infrastructures, such as indicatively entry infrastructures, road networks, tourist port infrastructures, capacities in tourism infrastructures, individual destinations of special interest, the planned land uses, the structured coverage of the destination, the state of the natural environment, coastlines and water resources, human resources, as well as the social and cultural capital of the destinations.
At the same time, an analysis of the offered tourism products will be carried out, focusing indicatively on the historical and existing tourism demand and supply, on competition, on the positioning of the destinations in the national and international market, on strategies that focus on the positioning and promotion of the destination, as well as on the penetration of existing and new markets.
Subsequently, a synthesis of the findings will be produced at the level of the internal and external environment of destinations, with the application of appropriate methodological tools. Taking the above into account, the carrying capacity of the destination will be assessed, and the main axes of its sustainable tourism development and management strategy will be set.
Among other things, the Integrated Destination Management Plan includes sustainable tourism development strategies for the destination, a destination promotion plan including the management of the destination brand, an action plan for the specialization of the individual actions of the strategies, as well as reports with an analytical report on the actual situation of the destination and its development strategy.
