The Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis announces with great pleasure the start of the direct air connection between Thessaloniki and Syros, which was inaugurated on June 3, 2025, with the first Aegean Airlines flight landing on the island.
This new connection is a decisive step in improving the accessibility of Syros, significantly strengthening the island’s connection with Northern Greece and the Balkan countries. At the same time, it creates new opportunities for stimulating tourism, supporting the local economy, and strengthening the island’s extroversion.
This specific initiative is part of the strategic actions of the Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis to upgrade the island’s air connectivity, in collaboration with Zela Aviation. The aim of the effort is to promote Syros as a dynamic and easily accessible tourist destination throughout the year.
The first flight was carried out with an ATR 72 aircraft, offering passengers a comfortable and safe flight. The regular connection with Thessaloniki marks a new era for Syros Airport, which is gradually acquiring an important role in the internal air network of the Cyclades.
Syros Airport, thanks to its strategic location and upgraded infrastructure, can effectively serve the growing passenger traffic, facilitating both residents and visitors to the island. The new line will contribute significantly to the better connection of Syros with important urban centers in Greece and will strengthen the tourist flow to the Cyclades.
The Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis will continue to work systematically to enhance the accessibility, extroversion, and sustainable development of Syros, with respect for the special character and quality of the island.
