Crete “goes up” to Lycabettus – Honorary concert for Vassilis Skoulas

On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the Municipal Theater of Lycabettus, the Pancretan Union is organizing a major concert-tribute to the leading lyre player and performer Vassilis Skoulas, under the title “Crete of Yesterday & Today”, in an evening of particular emotional and cultural value. The event is under the auspices of the Region of Crete.

Alongside Skoulas, two important creators and performers with a strong imprint on Greek music: Pantelis Thalassinos, with the characteristic tenderness of his island voice, and Haig Yazdjian, a great oud virtuoso, with roots from Armenia and a path deeply connected to the sounds of the Eastern Mediterranean.

The concert will be opened by the rising Eleni Tornesaki, representative of the new generation of Cretan music, with a significant presence already at the side of Vassilis Skoulas. The Vassalou Dance Group also participates, while the musical direction and orchestration are signed by Tatiana Papageorgiou.

During the evening, the President of the Pancretan Union, Rena Vassilaki, will award a special honorary distinction to Vasilis Skoulas for his overall contribution to the culture and musical tradition of Crete.

Vasilis Skoulas, an emblematic figure of Cretan song from Anogia, will present favorite songs from his long career, from rizitika and traditional to modern hits, as well as pieces that emerged from the popular series “Sasmos”. His voice and lyre promise a musical journey from Digenis and Erotokritos, to the brightest pages of today’s Crete.
