Passenger traffic up 6.4% in 5 months, +8.2% at HCAA airports
Passenger traffic at the 24 HCAA-managed airports increased by 8.2% for the first five months of 2025, while at all of the country’s airports where commercial flights are operated, the increase in traffic amounted to 6.4%.

The announcement of the Hellenic Aviation Authority in detail:

Passenger traffic at the 24 airports managed by the Hellenic Aviation Authority (Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupoli, Limnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Kozani, Kastoria, Karpathos, Kythira, Milos, Skyros, Nea Anchialos, Paros, Syros, Araxos, Naxos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Kastelorizo, Kasos, Leros, Sitia) increased by 8.2% in the first five months of 2025, compared to the corresponding period of 2024.

Specifically, according to the statistics, the total number of passengers (arrivals and departures of international and domestic passengers) in January-May 2025 amounted to 2,708,965 passengers, compared to 2,504,584 passengers in 2024.

May 2025: Heraklion Airport served over 1.05 million passengers

The Heraklion Crete State Airport served 1,054,181 passengers in May, an increase of 2% compared to the same month last year. At the same time, the most significant percentage increases in passenger traffic at the airports managed by the Hellenic Aviation Authority in May 2025, compared to 2024, were recorded at Nea Anchialos airport +313.8% (3,716 passengers in 2025 – 898 passengers in 2024), at Ioannina airport +56.1% (12,680 passengers in 2025 – 8,122 passengers in 2024), at Araxos airport +30.2% (15,544 passengers in 2025 – 11,940 passengers in 2024) and at Naxos airport +24.8% (21,441 passengers in 2025 – 17,174 passengers in 2024).

A 6.4% increase in passenger traffic and 5.2% in aircraft movements is recorded in the January-May 2025 statistics for the 39 airports

A 6.4% increase also occurs in passenger traffic for the first five months of 2025 at all airports in the country where commercial flights are carried out (39 airports: 24 CAA, 14 FRAPORT GREECE, AIA). Specifically, passenger traffic in the period January-May 2025 reached 21,830,648, compared to 20,518,545 passengers in the corresponding period of 2024.

Regarding the number of aircraft movements (arrivals and departures of domestic and international aircraft) for the first five months of 2025, at all 39 airports in the country, whose air traffic control is mainly exercised by the Hellenic Aviation Authority, an increase of 5.2% was recorded compared to 2024. Specifically, in total, in the period January-May 2025, 177,397 flights were carried out, compared to 168,604 flights in the first five months of 2024.
