351,000 more international arrivals at Greek airports in the 5th month

International air arrivals at Greek airports increased by 5.9%, compared to the corresponding 5th month of 2024, in the period January-May 2025, according to the INSETE Intelligence Statistical Bulletin.

Specifically, 6.3 million international air arrivals were recorded, showing an increase of +351 thousand compared to the corresponding period of 2024.

In May, 3.0 million international arrivals were recorded, showing an increase of +153 thousand/+5.3% compared to the corresponding month of 2024.

Crete first

The trend in the individual geographical units remains upward in the period January–May 2025. Specifically:

  • The most international air arrivals were recorded in Crete, with 1.0 million passengers, an increase of +54 thousand/+5.6% compared to the corresponding period of 2024.
  • The Dodecanese followed, with 786 thousand arrivals (+26 thousand/+3.3%), and the Ionian Islands, with 547 thousand passengers, showing an increase of +27 thousand/+5.2%.
  • In the Peloponnese, arrivals amounted to 38 thousand passengers (+5 thousand/+16.0%).
  • On the contrary, the Cyclades were the only geographical unit with a decrease, as 133 thousand arrivals were recorded, reduced by -24 thousand/-15.3% compared to 2024.

Travel Receipts in the 4 months

In the period January – April 2025, according to INSETE data, travel receipts recorded an increase of +10.6% compared to the corresponding period of 2024 and amounted to €2,157 million.

This development is mainly due to the increase in receipts from residents of other countries by +26.0%, which amounted to €1,040 million, as receipts from residents of EU-27 countries decreased by -1.8% and amounted to €1,026 million.

In more detail, receipts from residents of the euro area countries amounted to €862 million, down by -5.7%, while receipts from residents of the EU-27 countries outside the euro area increased by +25.4% and amounted to €164 million.

Receipts from Germany increased by +0.8% and amounted to €297 million, while receipts from France decreased by -25.0% and amounted to €110 million. Receipts from Italy also decreased by -6.6%, which amounted to €110 million.

Among other countries, receipts from the United Kingdom increased by +23.4%, which amounted to €168 million, while receipts from the USA increased by +36.8% and amounted to €325 million. €.
